Biography

Eusebio Poncela (September 15, 1947 - August 27, 2025) was a distinguished Spanish actor known for his compelling performances across film, television, and theater. He made his theatrical debut in "Mariana Pineda," showcasing his talent early on.

Poncela first graced the silver screen in 1969 with "Fuenteovejuna," but it was his leading role in the cult classic "Arrebato" (1979), directed by Iván Zulueta, that catapulted him to prominence. His ability to embody complex characters garnered him critical acclaim, further solidified by his performance in the TVE miniseries "Los gozos y las sombras" (1985).

He became a key figure in Spanish cinema, collaborating with renowned director Pedro Almodóvar in "La ley del deseo," which further demonstrated his versatility and depth as an actor. Poncela returned to the film scene with "Martín (Hache)" directed by Adolfo Aristarain and continued to make an impact with roles in films such as "Tuno negro" (2001) and "Remake" (2006). He also starred in "Intacto" (2001), directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, alongside the legendary Max von Sydow.
